2024 New Year Reiju Ceremony
Saturday, January 20, 2024

The year 2023 was an unforgettable one for us Reiki practitioners. Although delayed by one year due to the COVID pandemic, the Centenary of Usui Reiki Ryoho was held at the Osaka Central Public Hall, an important cultural landmark. The fact that 283 Reiki practitioners from 29 countries gathered to remember the great work of Mikao Usui Sensei and to share information about Reiki application in their respective countries had a great impact not only on the participants but also on the global Reiki community. Holding such a commemorative event in Japan, the birthplace of Reiki, and welcoming practitioners from all over the world for friendly interactions will increase confidence in Reiki, in our practice, and in the spread of Reiki. The 2015 Usui Reiki Ryoho Workshop in Spain, the 2018 Usui Reiki Birthplace Monument built at the Amataka Shrine in Gifu, and the Usui Reiki Ryoho Centenary Celebration are all in the same spirit and have been promoted as projects across Reiki lineages, facilitated by Gendai Reiki practitioners.

During Usui Sensei's lifetime, the New Year Reiju Ceremony was the most important event of the year and was passed down for generations, but it was discontinued due to the intensification of the war. As I explained previously, I revived the Ceremony from Usui Sensei's time and started it as a regular Gendai Reiki event in 2004, which will be its 20th anniversary in 2024. Since then, it has been held every year at the end of January, except for a break in 2021 due to the COVID pandemic, at the Meiji Kinenkan, a premier historical venue near the site where the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai was founded. In addition to restoring the traditional steps, we have incorporated a variety of ways to make the event more traditional and solemn, as well as to provide a place where participants can enjoy themselves, improve their skills, and interact with each other.

Usui Sensei stated that Anshin Ritsumei is the purpose of life and gave the following guidelines: "Follow the Gokai, the teachings for improvement, everyday," "Use Emperor Meiji's Gyosei as your daily nourishment," and "Strive to improve your training and maintain health for yourself and others, and promote the prosperity and happiness of your family, society, nation, and the world." In Gendai Reiki, based on Usui Sensei's guidelines, we emphasize and practice the three pillars of Reiki: daily practice of Gokai, study of Emperor Meiji's Gyosei as our daily food, and raising our vibrations to the love and harmonious energy of the universe with the Prayer for Universal Peace. The COVID entry restrictions have been lifted, and international participants will attend the 2024 New Year's Reiju Ceremony. I hope that this Ceremony will continue for a long time as a place to reaffirm the importance of improving oneself through Reiki and contributing to society through the correct spread of Reiki, as well as a place to meet and exchange ideas with others who share the same values. Gendai Reiki practitioners, see you at the New Year Reiju Ceremony!
